SERVICE DEPARTMENT
Full-time Employment
Director of Public Service - The City of Cortland is hiring for the position of Director of Public Service, a senior management role reporting to the Mayor and responsible for leading all operations of the City Service Department. This position plans, organizes, and oversees municipal services to ensure efficient and high-quality delivery to the public.
Key responsibilities include managing public works and infrastructure operations such as streets, storm drains, city buildings, parks, and water and sewer systems. The Director supervises staff, oversees budgeting and scheduling, manages capital and compliance projects (including EPA requirements), and develops departmental policies and long-term initiatives. The role also prepares quarterly and City Council reports and works closely with city officials, staff, contractors, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
- Ohio Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred
- Water utilities operator license required within two years of hire
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience with management, supervisory, and budgeting duties
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $80,000–$115,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
